Recipe Ideas

Cooking is NOT my forte'.  However, I have had great help from my friends who have given me easy, healthy recipes.  As I learn about nutrition, I add to my ideas.  I hope this helps those of you who struggle in this area too, and those of you who don't.

I have included recipe ideas that work for our family.  Your families and child's tastes may be different.  I have two, very finicky eaters, so these are healthy ideas that should work for almost everyone.  My girls are both allergic to nuts, so you won't find them in my recipes.  However, those are great snacks if they work for you.

Tip:

SMOOTHIES!

They are a great way to get your kids to have a nutritious snack!

Try different things and see what you and your kids like the best.

Our Favorite!!

  • Milk
  • Vanilla yogurt
  • Large handful of frozen strawberries and blueberries
  • One banana
  • Olive Oil and Canola Oil (about a tbsp of each)
  • Naked Green Machine juice - I like to drink this and it's got lots of good stuff for the kids.  It also sweetens the smoothie.

My shopping favorites:

Trader Joes

  • Trader Joes brand hummus is our favorite
  • Little mini pita breads /or mini bagels
  • Baked Tofu (it’s by the lunch meat) Thai or Teriyaki
  • Prepackaged salads/spinach
  • Packaged/precut veggies
  • Morning Star brand veggie bacon and veggie sausage
  • Kids boxed milk
  • Kids boxed juices

Sprouts

  • Lunch meat (Sprouts brand lunch meat is my favorite, I won’t buy lunch meat anywhere else now.  (It doesn’t have any nitrites like the packaged brands do).  I like the roasted chicken the best.
  • Sprouts is starting to get more organics fruits and veggies.
  • Organic yogurt tubes to freeze
  • Bins of dried fruit and trail mix for snacks
  • Applegate Farms Uncured Turkey bacon (this is my all time favorite bacon!)
  • Edamame-Sprouts is the only place that I have found US grown-all others are from China
