What do I believe?

• Being a parent is the most important, rewarding, and challenging job we’ll ever have.
• What happens in the first years of development is essential to create a responsible, happy, bright and healthy child.  There are many factors that impact this including, nutrition and health as well as the environment we provide and how we parent and discipline our kids.
• Every child is valuable and unique.  Although there are exceptional parenting tools that will help you to be a successful parent, they will vary for each child and each individual family.
• Parents love their kids and want to be the best they can be!  Sometimes, however, they are too close to the situation to see a challenge objectively.  And having a third pair of eyes to help problem solve a given situation can be VERY beneficial.
• Children do what they are supposed to do to learn about their environment.  Their "misbehaviors" are opportunities to teach them about their world and the values we want to pass along.
• We often either parent the way we were parented because we think our parents were great, or we parent opposite our parents if we think that they were not so great.  But mostly, we do what we learned because that’s all we know and how we were wired.  It's important to evaluate oneself and recognize where we fall in this spectrum.  And then take the necessary steps to do the very best we can with the knowledge and talents we have.
